National Tortilla Chip Day

Tortillas were first mass-produced in Los Angeles in the late 1940’s. It is said that the triangle-shaped chips were made popular by Rebecca Webb Carranza as a way to use misshapen tortillas rejected from their automated manufacturing machine that she and her husband used at their Los Angeles deli and tortilla factory. Some of our favorite local places to enjoy a great tortilla are Flores on Union Street, West of Pecos in the Mission District and Tropisueno on Yerba Buena Lane.
